IVES reads the movement of a muscle as an electric signal (EMG signal), and applies electrical stimulation to the muscle. Minimal movement results in light stimulation, while more movement results in stronger stimulation. Unlike most other low-frequency electrical stimulators which emit a preset level of stimulation for a preset duration, IVES facilitates rehabilitation by utilizing the muscular force used in daily living tasks.
