Kurakkan is one of the most important staple crops in Sri Lanka, many households eat kurakkan flour based foods such as string hoppers, roti and halapa. The prominent food variety of kurakkan is popular all over the country. It is mostly preferred by elderlies and diabetic patients, they usually use the flour mixed with coconut milk and palm sugar and keep it in a simmer and consume it like a porridge.
